The « Octuor de France » - previously known as the Ensemble Carl Stamitz – was formed in 1979 at the initiative of clarinettist Jean-Louis Sajot. From its inception, its main objective has been to promote music for the clarinet from the 18th century to the present day. The new name of the group reflects not only the extension of its repertoire but also its desire to promote French music abroad by means of numerous international tours to Spain, Japan, Mexico, the United States, Canada, Australia, Tunisia, etc…
The musicians of the Octuor de France perform in combinations ranging from duet to octet, with or without piano. They offer a wide range of classical, romantic and contemporary works and at the same time enable their audiences to discover forgotten or rarely performed scores.
Moreover, the Octuor de France commissions new works from contemporary composers.
The Octuor de France has recorded CD’s of the music of Antonin Reicha, Carl Maria von Weber, Franz Schubert, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Jean Francaix and Gabriel Thibaudeau.
